[Solved] Crackling Sounds coming from Your Laptop

Today I was very much frustrated. My newly bought Asus N43SL laptop, which has an Audio System powered by Bang & Olufsen ICEpower seems to produce crackling noises when I'm playing music. Audio was perfect & precise and I was admiring it all day few days before.

And finally I've got rid of this issue. So what was the problem?
Like anybody I googled about this issue first. Here are the possible causes I've gathered from the resources I found on Google.

1. This has been reported as an issue intertwined with computers powered by Nvidia Graphic Cards. So uninstalling drivers & installing a fresh copy of a lower version of the video driver has solved the problem for some people. Select your card and download drivers from here.

2. Downgrade Realtek HD Drivers. Realtek HD Audio Drivers has been reported to produce this crackling noise and I've experienced it with my previous Asus F80S laptop. So trying different versions of Realtek HD Drivers have fixed the problem. Get drivers from here.

3. Also this could be a hardware issue. Connect your laptop/PC to an extenal Audio Output source (ex. External speakers) and check whether the crackling noise is still present or not? If it is then it's a hardware problem. You might need to search for your warranty card. ;-)

4. None of the above was my case. My issue was SonicWall Global VPN client software. By uninstalling this software I got rid of this annoying issue.

Now I'm enjoying the power of Asus N43SL audio happily again. :-)

  1. This crackle has been bothering me for days, but I just downgraded my Realtek HD drivers, and that seems to have fixed the problem! Thank you so much!

  2. Hey I need help with this one, as I have this crackling issue. I want to try downgrading my Realtek HD driver but I'm not sure which one to download because they are not very descriptive, and I'm just getting confused. My current version is 6.0.1.6449.

  3. Hi, did you recently upgraded the realtek driver?
you might be able to find the recommended Realtek driver version on official driver download site for your laptop/computer.
or please try driver version 6.0.1.6221. That's what I have on my laptop. :)
If something goes wrong, you can always rollback to the last working version. :)

  4. Hmm, after trying to download one it seems I actually have upgraded to version 6.0.1.6662. Problem is I had to restart, and the crackling doesn't happen right after restarting, it takes maybe a few days until I start hearing crackling. So I'll wait a few days and see if it comes up again, and then I'll try the version you have. :)

  8. You are wrong in saying if the crackling still occurs when connected to an external speakers then it is a hardware problem. It could be, but not necessarily. If it is outdated drivers then it is going to cause the same problem whether audio is played via the laptop speakers or external speakers. Remember external speakers are just amplifying that is coming out the soundcard, drivers of your system.
